Is There a Secret to Successful Color?

For as many years that I have been a color consultant and color designer, I never tire of talking about color! Never. I know that sounds cliché but it’s so true.

Just the other day, I had three separate conference calls scheduled with consultants that had graduated from the ColorIQ course and were at various stages in their businesses. They wanted to discuss project designs and get my feedback before presenting them to their clients. I realized that each of them had taken what skills they learned in the ColorIQ course and implemented them into their designs. Not one color plan was ordinary or expected!

Though they each executed their designs with clarity of design goals, sophistication, and amazing placement strategies, all I could think of was how lucky their clients were to have hired them!

This got me thinking though. What makes one Color Consultant or Color Designer better or different than others? Sure, there are many out there, from...

Sometimes You Just Have to Reinvent Yourself

Uncategorized Nov 05, 2019

Every once in a while everyone gets in a work-related rut, especially entrepreneurs.

It's inevitable because nothing ever goes perfectly and rarely just as planned. The vision we once had has become a bit tarnished and the days have become quite routine. Sometimes it's a matter of getting stuck in the same old routines just because "we've always done it that way", "It's worked for us so far" or "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

So, what's the price you're paying for apathy?

I can assure you that if you're not inspired neither are your clients and uninspired clients typically aren't paying clients. So apathy means you're probably leaving a lot of money on the table! But, the biggest price of apathy to an entrepreneur is the loss of a dream. That feeling of doing what you love as if money wasn't a consideration. The idea that you're going to change the world.

Don't lose the dream, just reinvent yourself.

Get the passion back. After all the biggest allure of...

What Does Creativity Have to Do With Success?

Thinking outside the cubicle

There's a mindset that pervades our culture when it comes to identifying "creatives." Often, they are described as the "crazy" or "artsy-fartsy" personalities in the group. Even worse, creative types are typically associated with laziness and often pegged as unreliable. Of course, this couldn't be farther from the truth! People with evolved creative brains are far from lazy, in fact, they work twice as hard and long as their counterparts because they have the drive to see their vision complete. Creatives are NOT clock watchers! Projects they are involved in are not typically experienced as a job or a task, but rather as a personal challenge. and there's nothing a creative type loves more than a challenge!

I confess I AM that creative person. I discovered early on in my life that being assigned to a cubicle or office doing the same thing day after day was akin to sentencing me to solitary confinement in a high-security prison.

I tried to...

Focus On What You Do Best and Forget the Rest

Uncategorized Nov 05, 2019

As my business as a color consultant, specialty store retailer, mentor and teacher evolved I have quickly discovered that trying to be everything to everybody was not working well for me. I felt like I was on a hamster wheel and couldn't get off! I instinctively knew something was off but couldn't pinpoint it. I couldn't concentrate or focus on any one thing long enough to give it my best effort.

It wasn't until I made an appointment with a business mentor did I realize that the answer was simple. As he so deftly pointed out to me that while my "well rounded" list of services was impressive, they diluted my true focus and desire.  "Eliminate them" he said, "do you enjoy them?" he asked. "No, not really but they pay the bills (that's important right?) "Yes, but they are taking away from being profitable and successful in what you really want and enjoy!" he replied. Well, after a few horrifying seconds and visions of eliminating much of my website, I decided he was...
